Effect of Achievement Motivation and Identity on Academic Achievement in Health-Related Majors

Abstract
A survey was conducted on 214 college students in the city of Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, from September 1, 2008, to April 30, 2009. The collected data were analyzed by a statistical package SPSS WIN 19.0. Statistical data on frequency and percentage were obtained, and t-test and one-way ANOVA were utilized to find out their learning confidence, learning enthusiasm, learning expectation, satisfaction with the courses, achievement motivation and personal identity. They got a mean of 3.73 out of five in satisfaction with the courses, 3.27 in learning confidence, 3.31 in enthusiasm and 3.50 in expectation. As for achievement motivation, they got 4.13 in work, 2.95 in mastery and 3.37 in competition. They got 3.43 in the level of achievement motivation and 3.35 in identity. The students whose academic achievement was higher were ahead of the students whose academic achievement was lower in terms of learning confidence (p<.001), enthusiasm (p<.001), expectation (p<.001), work-related achievement motivation (p<.05), mastery (p<.01) and overall achievement motivation (p<.05).
